Zelensky’s Historic Speech & First Time Leaving Ukraine in 10 Months
Unlike other leaders fleeing war zones, Zelensky has made an effort to bring world leaders to Kyiv in order to meet with him in the midst of a war. He’s needed in Kyiv to oversee the war effort, at the helm of his generals. So, he doesn’t leave.
Last week Zelensky left Ukraine for the first time in 10 months when he made his way to Washington D.C., just as Putin was visiting Lukashenko in Belarus. Zelensky gave a historic speech to the US Congress. It was very touching; I recommend you watch it if you haven’t already.
Let’s talk about what he addressed and why it’s historic for the time we’re living in.
As I mentioned above, in the same week that Putin visits Lukashenko, Zelensky travels to Washington, D.C. He spoke movingly in front of Congress, which resulted in a standing ovation.
US support has been the clear game-changer in this conflict. It was largely because of their supply of HIMARS and ammunition to Ukraine that Russia’s losses have been so large. Of course, without Ukrainian courage there would be no one to repel the Russian troops, so they should receive most of our gratitude.
Some days, Russian casualties reach up to 520. I discuss whether these estimates are accurate in this blog post.
