Zelensky: “This is the beginning of the end of the war”
“This is the beginning of the end of the war,” declared Mr. Zelensky as he walked through Kherson — the newly liberated city. “We are step by step coming to all the temporarily occupied territories.”
We have reached a tipping point in the war in Ukraine. A point where the Ukrainian war effort can finally overhaul Putin’s ambitions in the region.
In November, Kherson was liberated.
In December, Ukrainian troops have their eyes on more of the illegally annexed territory that Putin has “claimed.”
Are Ukrainians able to see the beginning of the end?
Ukraine is convinced that Russia will launch another large counteroffensive across the region and perhaps even on the capital.
Russia has been causing extensive damage to Ukrainian energy infrastructure throughout the war, but we have seen an uptick since October. Major cities across Ukraine see extensive blackouts on a weekly basis.
Putin has also been better able at mobilizing forces than Ukraine, with some estimated 300,000 being added to the war effort since the partial mobilization earlier this Fall, according to The Economist.
