Why Hell is the Most Disturbing Christian Doctrine
For a long time now, I have despised the Christian doctrine of Hell.
How could Christians really believe that everyone who refuses God is damnable for eternity?
If Christians really believed in it, they would spend every waking moment trying to spread the Gospel, as the early Christians did.
Let me explain.
Christians are not simply allowed to live life as they see fit. Both Christ and Paul, comprising much of the New Testament, are very restrictive in their attitudes toward the path of the Christian’s life.
In Revelations, Christ warns: “Because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth” (3:14–16).
And in Matthew 23:25–28, Jesus warns: “In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.”
It may be difficult to define the act of being lukewarm, but it is probably not a stretch to say most Western Evangelicals are systematically lukewarm.
They do not prioritize Christianity in the same way Paul and Jesus’ disciples did in the New Testament.
They play games in the evening, go to church on Sunday, go to their jobs throughout the week, and cheat on…
