Why Christians Are Against Abortion

I have seen a lot of hate toward Christians in the last two days. And a lot of is understandable. Let’s be honest here. The US Supreme Court ruling against Roe v Wade is against reproductive rights, undermining the rights of women in America.

But I thought I’d do something different than most on Medium who have been writing eloquent pieces on the many moral shortcomings of such a ruling. I thought I’d share where these pro-lifers are coming from.

As a former fundamentalist Christian, in my teens, I once also advocated for the pro-life position. I’ve changed since those early formative years. And it’s precisely because of that, that I believe that my case against pro-life advocates is that much stronger.

The Christian right is opposed to abortion for a few reasons. I won’t get into all of them. For our purposes, it’s enough to say that most have to do with the intrinsic moral wrong of killing a fetus, who is a human being (not just a potential human being) in the view of these Christians.
