Well put! I think that many of these deep philosophical questions do not get answered because there simply is not an answer. As you said, the function of evolution was for an entirely different thing. But we consider our reasoning capacities to be unique and objective and illuminating. Sure, in many ways they are, but they are not so in the way we imagine as cognitive psychology is showing us, and as you are aware of.
