The Truth About Abortion Conservatives Hate
With all the talk about abortion since POLITICO’s scoop into an initial draft of a majority opinion of the U.S. Supreme Court, abortion has become a highly contested issue once more.
So, I thought I’d address some objections to abortion and look at some brief scientific and social reasons why abortion must be legal. Conservatives might dislike this resolution, but they should strongly reckon with it nonetheless.
When abortion is heavily restricted or banned, women from poor, rural and marginalized communities suffer most, as they may not be able to afford to travel to places where abortion is legal, or pay what it costs. — Margaret Wurth
The majority of abortions occur prior to the second trimester. Before then, the relevant science does not suggest that the child is anything close to what we consider a sentient human being.
The fetus cannot feel nor think in a way that is morally equivalent to a born infant.
If we were to make the judgment that abortion is morally wrong and even that it is murder, we would have to make a jump in logic that could then translate to a lot of unwanted moral implications.
