Alexander Lukashenko has long spewed that Belarus is facing dire threats from Ukraine. Unequivocal lies. But they are said. And they have, as of October 2022, resulted in some military mobilizations in the region.

Ukraine is arguing that it is Moscow that is forcing Belarus to join in the war effort.

Recent deployments of some 9,000 Russian troops in Belarus are making many weary of the potential of a new offensive in Ukraine when much of Ukrainian efforts are rightly focused on the Kherson region, especially the city of Kherson where some 20,000 Russians are presently isolated, and the Donbas.

It is arguably because of Russia’s losses and potential strategic mismanagement, that Belarus is threatening Ukraine with an invasion. Nonetheless, it’s important to take these threats seriously. Here’s why.

Russians are claiming that the recent deployment of troops is a sign to the West and its allies of the unification of the Belarussian and Russian people.

Despite these deployments, Lukashenko has denied that joint forces will invade Ukraine from Belarus. Up until now, Belarus has abstained from getting directly involved in the conflict because of potential political ramifications at home, where Lukashenko is truly standing on thin ice.
