That's broadly the way I see it! In the blog post I also specify about the people wanting to belong to the Soviet sphere of influence and not only the people in power. There were obviously excepetions, but views were by no means homogeneous as we imagine today.

That is of course not to suggest that Sovietness was intrinsically good or that it wasn't good for the Soviet Union to end.
