That reminds me of a similar framing by Richard Dawkins, which broadly went along the lines of "If you need god to not rape, pillage, and so forth then you don't have a solid foundation in morality at all."

And truly that framing is a dismissive attitude toward very valid reasons to be moral: our duty to community, gut-feelings, the law, reasoned morals, etc.
