My Biggest Problem with Christianity

Christian thinkers will love to blame secularization for any amorality in society. Nazis? Atheism. Mass shooting? Was an atheist. Stalin? Atheist.

Many prominent Christian intellectuals have done this. But even thinkers who aren’t particularly known for their beliefs, like Jordan Peterson have made these arguments.

And they couldn’t be more wrong. Indeed, there is no correlation between studying morality and behaving morally. We behave morally for a host of reasons. In the meantime, many Christians claim to have the key to some golden standard for a moral compass.

When I was a Christian in my teens, I cherished reading about Him. I found great comfort in thinking about biblical issues as a teenager.

I think there is a place for deep thinking and reasoning in the Christian world. That is why I believe that when my Christians are made fun of for what they believe, they are treated unfairly.

Reason vs. Christianity?

Many celebrated atheist thinkers have thought that religious faith and reason are fundamentally at odds with one another.

Michael Shermer, in his book The Moral Arc, writes that Christian reasoning “promoted” and “justified” the Crusades, the Inquisition, witch hunts, and Protestant wars.
