I don’t want to quote Ye or link you to a video. Actually, I urge you not to engage with his content that has been spewing on the internet.

But there is a line at which we have to be public and shout from the rooftops that we refuse to tolerate antisemitism like this.

Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) has recently spewed some gross antisemitism once more. So, you don’t have to engage with the content directly, Ye said he “loves Hitler” and Nazis. That is not out of context.

This is a line we have to draw and speak about. We need active censorship on social media to prevent speech like this from flourishing. And we need to start actively talking about it.

He said it and we should trust him, since he has expressed these sentiments in private conversations for months before his recent interview with extreme right-wing pundit, Alex Jones. Not good company, but Ye made Jones look like a liberal (albeit, a confused liberal) and mild in comparison.

The principal harm of shock value content on social media (most recently seen by some prominent figures expressing gross antisemitism) is that it’s done purposefully to garner engagement. Engagement is our most valuable currency in our age of surveillance capitalism, in the end.
