It would only make sense. Although, official policy as of now is to train Ukrainian soldiers on NATO soil (in Poland, Slovakia, etc.). But I’m sure the Russians were aware that there were NATO troops in Ukraine. I mean many presidents, including the US president, traversed to Ukraine.
