Turkey may be a G20 member but it is not as interwoven as Russia. In the end, prior to the full-scale invasion, Russia provided the EU with more than 40% of its gas supplies and Germany (its largest economy), more than 50%.
The death toll, if it continues, would also put this conflict at one of the highest since the Second World War, of up to 125,000.
Yes, it’s unprecedented.
That’s not to say that land grabs happened elsewhere. They did. But not at this scale, displacing more than 1/3 of Ukrainians — a nation of 43 million or so.
