I Lived in Oxford — How It Changed Me
We won’t have the chance of contributing significantly to the world without first seeing it & understanding it.
My favorite place in the world — Oxford.
I don’t have another way of saying it. Or maybe I do. But I want to make this statement true. How boring would this world be without stories? How great and liberating is the travel, the fear of the unknown & the eager expectation of knowing it.
Oxford is an occasion.
As I have traveled I saw new things that would later change me. They opened new doors, doors that led me places. Without being in Oxford, I wouldn’t of made plans to go to Montreal, or Amsterdam, or Athens.
I wouldn’t see the things that would later change all of my relationships — I wouldn’t have been liberated to Atheism.
We need to see more things in order to be liberated from our bonds.
However, I never wanted to be that gent who always wanders and never makes time to pause and appreciate. That’s why I’ll come back and I’ll take the time to sit and think.
I’ll take the time to appreciate.
I still haven’t discovered my true self. This letter is a testimony. Why can’t I find myself? I see new things about myself through people that mirror qualities in me. But I want to see beyond what I know. I want to connect with people that I haven’t met.
I want to dig into relationships that I haven’t had the opportunity to. In the past, I should have stressed certain things that I didn’t. I need to see these unseen things. I need to know the unknown. I need to make risks and challenge my body and mental state to be someone who is completely capable of transformation and is easily adaptable.
I want to be someone that people look up to. I’m a wandering spirit that wants to find his place, his town, his group.
Do I See a Future in Oxford?
I can predict that I will visit this beautiful place throughout my life again & again. It means quite a bit to me, Oxford.
Ironically, it was my faith and fascination with CS Lewis that drew me here. And it was here that I stepped away from the certainties of my youth and, instead, started to think about the same philosophical questions differently.
I owe this place a lot, then.
I always wanted to study here.
And even if I never achieve the intellectual prowess to do so.
This place still taught me a lot.
For that, I will be forever thankful.
