Drugs get a very bad reputation in society. It was not once that I had a lengthy conversation explaining that heroin is fundamentally different from marijuana to some of my more conservative friends.

I do not blame them. In the end, we are all scared of what we do not know. In order to make drugs less appealing, authorities told people that drugs would make them more lazy, addicted, and impulsive. It didn’t matter that the word ‘drugs’ could not possibly hope to encapsulate all the different strands of drugs and their different uses.

Nuance is a very difficult thing to establish. Once, opium was illegal. Today, it would be hard to imagine surgery without some form of mild or extreme sedatives. So, let me briefly guide you through the significance of drugs and what it can do to our understanding of objectivity, universality, and rationality.

When you take LSD you are shifted into an entirely different perspective. Suddenly every thought is foreign and everything deserves questioning. Every sensation that arises in the brain is put under scrutiny by your sober (or reflective) state of mind.

The question that kept coming to me was, ‘Is this really my sober state that is questioning this experience? Or is it my intoxicated…
