How are Russians Treating Ukrainian POWs ?— Overlaps Between the Red Army & Russian Soldiers Today
Russian soldiers have never had a good reputation.
Since they pillaged and raped their way through Europe, as the Red Army, in 1944, and terrorized the people of Afghanistan in the 1980s, we’ve had a picture of what an unlimited dose of alcohol and immorality can do to a unit of men.
The situation in Ukraine is by no means as severe as the Red Army’s offensive on Berlin, but some themes overlap.
Let me explain.
Many have now painted overlaps between the 20th century and the present. I am not the first to do so. But it’s worth covering some of it here because these things cannot be restated enough.
We rarely learn from history.
But this occasion is the best opportunity to do so.
As is the case today, in 1944, the Red Army raped and pillaged its way through Europe as it “liberated” the continent. And sure enough, it was largely due to the Red Army’s counteroffensive against Nazi Germany that the Allies won the war.
The Red Army was by far the largest army the world has known. By the end of the war, 34 million people served in it.
