Fighting Our Ukraine Fatigue
I recently attended a Prague Security Studies Institute summer school in collaboration with NATO. One of the things we discussed with leading experts on Russia is the reality that many in the West have become fatigued with constant news of Ukraine.
Some are worried that this will result in less support for sending military supplies and other equipment.
Like many of you, when the war broke out, I became obsessed with the news cycle. I took books from the library on Putin, read biographies, listened to a few podcasts on the conflict daily, and couldn’t stop watching DW News.
I have been living in Warsaw, a city with the most Ukrainian refugees (with the population rising by more than 17%), since May and I can tell you, that it is clear from living here that Ukraine is still at war and that its people still need our unequivocal support. Here’s why.
It would be fair if Ukrainians were feeling some fatigue since they have been fighting Russian-backed separatists in Donbas since 2014. From that conflict alone (2014–2022), more than 14,000 lives were lost and 2 million people were displaced.
