Central Europe’s Dependence on Germany & the Future of Electric Vehicles
Since I’ve been writing about Germany as the stangating leader of the EU, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s legacy for Germany, and Central Europe’s mistakes in following in German reliance on Russian energy exports, I thought it worth looking closer again at the Slovakian reliance on Germany specifically since it has been in the news lately with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s visit to Moscow on Sunday, 22nd December.
Of course, Slovakia is not the only country that has been struggling in the age of transition. The EU shares similar problems to the Slovak economy. But Slovakia has seen one of the quickest expanding deficits in the EU.
Given the Slovak economy’s heavy dependence on production and exports within the automotive sector, structural shifts driven by ongoing green and digital transitions are expected to significantly impact its economic dynamics. Addressing this challenge will require diversifying production activities and increasing its contribution to an automotive industry that is dependent on renewable energy.
