Atheists vs. Christians on the Meaning of Life — Who Makes More Sense

Since one of the last articles I wrote on this topic, created considerable discussion on this blog, I thought I would revisit the topic and incorporate some feedback I receieved from the comments.

In a lot of discussions I have had over the years with people of faith, I am usually told that atheists cannot find meaning in life because everything is arbitrary.

To me, it is this very randomness that gives us the freedom to discover life’s meaning in anything we value.

So, can we find meaning in life even though it ultimately leads to death?

Yes, we absolutely can.

Let me explain.

Western society has flourished in many ways since the 1960s. With this social flourishing, growing individualism, and weakening face-to-face interactions, we also see a steady increase in depression, anxiety, meaninglessness, and all the rest.
