How many casualties are there in Ukraine? How many dead are there? We hear various estimates. One thing is clear: Hearing about these estimates can bolster support for Ukraine.

The West is somewhat impatient. And far-right parties loom. In Germany, the second most popular party in politics right now is the neo-fascist party, Alternative for Germany (AFD); in the U.S.A., a Republican isolationist nominee could overtake Biden’s withering support; Slovakia expects its pro-Russian ex-PM to return as PM; other central and eastern European countries expect a similar fate.

So, talking about casualties is necessary. The war is not going away anytime soon. The slow and steady advance of the Ukrainians in their counteroffensive is costly. More will die.

So, let’s talk about the numbers.
