7 Dead in Chernihiv Attack — Russia Continues Its War On Ukrainian Civilians

Another day, another news headline where Russia bombs civilian targets in a city center; this time in Chernihiv — a northern Ukrainian city.

More than ninety have been injured in the attack and a six-year-old girl was killed among at least six others.

The strike occurred as people were leaving the church on a Saturday, which is an important day in the Orthodox calendar.

There is no way to explain Russia’s ceaseless bombing of Ukraine. But it’s worth touching on how this goes against any serious intentions of deterring Ukrainian from continuing their counteroffensive into the Fall of 2023.

Let me explain.

In the past, Putin has purposefully targeted civilians to break their spirit. By doing so, he’s proven once more that he knows nothing about the Ukrainian people.

Of course, we do not know for certain if Putin himself has been ordering attacks on civilians. We could reasonably assume that command is mostly decentralized.

When it comes to the early stages of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine (think: early days in late February 2022), it was clear that Russians were surprised by Ukrainian opposition because of what they were told prior to entering Ukraine.
