6 Months Ago, Putin Changed Europe & the World

After Putin’s full-scale and unprecedented invasion of Ukraine 6 months ago on this day, the 24th of February 2022, the world changed.

Ukraine trumped all of our expectations, managing to even stage successful counteroffensives throughout Putin’s invasion. It now seems that Russia is on the defensive at numerous junctures in the Kherson region and Donetsk.

But we should remember that Putin’s war is primarily for the survival of Ukraine as a sovereign nation. Moving forward, this notion should primarily dictate the resolve we have toward sending more military and humanitarian support to Ukrainians. Without support, Ukraine is threatened to be taken off the map.

Let’s get into some of the changes that this war has brought to the European continent. We can start with how this war has brought Ukrainians closer together. More Ukrainians want to join the EU than ever before because of Putin’s aggression.

In fact, if we compare 2014 poll results, where 54% of Ukrainians were in support of EU membership, with today, we see that approximately 91% are in favor of joining the EU (as of May 2022).That same change occurred in the European Union.
