5 Political Events that Shaped 2022
The pandemic is quieting down but future waves are still not out of the picture. Inflation is high. Interest rates are up. A recession is looming. The war in Ukraine displaced millions of people and changed Europe. A global wheat shortage, as a result, is threatening to starve millions, perhaps resulting in more refugees.
But how did we get here?
What were the events that shaped 2022?
Here’s my list of 5 big events that shaped 2022 and why you should care about them in order to understand the problems of today.
1. The Political Consequences of the Pandemic
COVID-19 changed all of us. We had to adjust to conditions that few were familiar with. Masks. Social distancing. Loneliness. Needless bickering with our loved ones who lived in close proximity with us for months on end. Show binging. Food binging. We all know it well.
The pandemic also brought out polarization, nastiness, and disenfranchisement.
People became ostracized because of their intuitive assumptions about virology, vaccines, and science more generally. And isolation brought out some of these gut feelings.
